According to Intel, the new chip’s power consumption, expressed index Scenario Design Power, is only 4.5 watts. Earlier in June at Computex, the company reported that the SDP for Haswell is 6 watts.

This is one fanless CPU Core, – declared the representative of Intel.

For consumers, energy-efficient processors Haswell mean the appearance of a thin, lightweight laptops and hybrid tablets, most of which will run under the operating system Windows 8.1.

It is expected that many future tablets based on Intel chips will use Atom Bay Trail family Silvermont Atom, which are focused on the fanless mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones. However, a lower throughput than processors Haswell Intel Core.

The difference between the fan and fanless design is clearly demonstrated by the example of two tablets of Microsoft. Surface RT tablet without fan cooling uses energy-saving chip Nvidia ARM. Surface Pro for professionals is slightly thicker and heavier than the previous model due to built-in fan to cool the more voracious processor Intel Ivy Bridge.

Low-power processor Haswell will be released in limited quantities later this year.
